Preamplifiers

When capturing sound, the most important piece of equipment is the microphone. But a microphone is only as good as the preamp you are putting it through, and it is greatly influenced by the room you are recording in. We specialise in the recording of acoustic instruments and as such have a purpose built live room which is totally isolated and acoustically treated. Couple this with a choice of new and vintage tube preamps and compressors we have the ability to create any colour or texture required. Our input chain can match the quality and variety of any studio in Australia.

BBC valve preamp

This preamp was taken from the BBC studios in London. Made in the 60's it has been racked, moded and serviced by Analogue-Addicts in London. This pre is loaded with valves, has a giant output transformer and has a deep creamy sound which makes any instrument or microphone sound lush. It has a two input transformers, so any microphone that exists can be used, even vintage 50 ohm ribbons like our STC also from the BBC studios. The input stage also allows for gentle colouration to a crunchy saturation. A little shy on the very highs, it lends itself best to the Sinatra/ Crosby era vocals, or for instrument use.

Sebatron Axis preamps x 6

Sebatron is simply one of the best modern preamps ever made. We have tested this preamp against the Universal Audio 610 and it won hands down for clarity and depth. We tested it against the EMI Redd, and it again came out on top, even though the difference was very minimal. Everything that passes through this preamp sounds remarkable. It is proudly Australian made.
